MISSION: To evolve models of development that,

1. … prioritize environmentally, social and economically sustainable solutions to housing innovation, civic space development and community revitalization.

2. … create an academic environment that fosters design-driven, entrepreneurial opportunities that also contribute to their communities through socially, environmentally and economically sustainable, real-world solutions.

The Sustainable Development Lab (SDLab) is a student-centered research and practice laboratory inside the University of Louisiana, Lafayette that integrates design and entrepreneurship in a model of economic development and community engagement. The core knowledge base of the Lab is in high-performance building design and the sustainable development that it supports.

The SDLab is a hands-on lab environment with students working on all aspects of the development process. As a practice laboratory dedicated to design entrepreneurship and sustainable development we look to promote research and economic development through a number of cross-disciplinary collaborations (co-Labs) through urban density, housing, building science, fabrication and cultural resource management.
